If you have to leave the San Diego, CA area and you can't find a friend or relative to properly care for your pet in your absence, boarding your pet is a viable option. Having a veterinarian that also does pet boarding is convenient.
The veterinarian who cares for your pets can also watch them for you. If any unexpected medical situations arise, Dr. Schexneider can provide medical care faster than if your pet stays elsewhere.
The two most common vaccines required before pet sittings at an official boarding location are Bordetella and Rabies.
Bordetella inoculations can be given as a vaccine or a liquid through the nose. Usually, the Bordetella vaccine must be given at least one month before boarding and must not expire during the boarding visit. The Bordetella vaccine can last six months, one year, or three years, depending on the type provided by your veterinarian.
The Rabies vaccination must be current. The expiration date is located on the Rabies certificate provided to you when the vaccination was given.
You'll provide your contact information, your veterinarian's contact information, and your pet's vaccination history. Prepare to fill out sections of papers where you'll detail out special health conditions your pet may have, behavior quirks they should be aware of, whether the animal has ever bitten anyone, and the types of food your pet prefers.
Most pets will be OK once safely settled into their new environment. You can rest assured that our trained veterinary staff can handle multitudes of pet reactions and behaviors in your absence. Our staff will manage and care for your pets with the same level of care you provide at home.
