At the Tierrasanta Veterinary Hospital, we’re intimately familiar with the benefits of vaccinations for our beloved animal family members. Whether you have a new puppy or an older cat, all animals benefit from being kept up to date on their vaccinations. Our animal hospital veterinarians in San Diego offers care for your pet that meets all of its needs, acute and preventative.

If your companion comes down with a life-threatening illness, bring them in and we’ll take excellent care of them. Sometimes, even with the best of care, the worst diseases in the animal world can cause long term health issues or death. The best way to keep your pet safe from these risks is to vaccinate them before they’re exposed to life-threatening illnesses.

Vaccine Schedule

Not sure how best to handle vaccines for your pet? Reach out to our office and ask. Our staff is knowledgeable on all of the different vaccines each type of pet should receive as well as the recommended schedules to balance protecting your pet’s health with their readiness to receive the vaccination. Some vaccines are only given when specific situations arise, for example kenneling your dog. Others are repeated every few years, like rabies, and some protect your pet for much longer periods. Vaccines are best handled alongside regular well-pet checkups and can also be given without a comprehensive appointment.

Legal Requirements for Vaccination

Your local county or city has laws around vaccinations as well. For example, the following applies to San Diego.

The owner of every dog older than three months is required to vaccinate the dog against rabies. The dog must be vaccinated before it is five months old. (San Diego County Code sections 62.610 and 62.620, and California Health and Safety Code 121690) Those who fail to do so will have costly penalties.

Call us today to schedule a visit. We will review your pet’s health, what vaccinations your pet has already received, what vaccinations they may need, and how to catch up your pet on any vaccinations they might have missed.
